Continuous Improvement
Quality assurance of undergraduate educational programs through the evaluation of accrediting bodies
Ensuring the quality of undergraduate educational programs at our institution is essential to guarantee excellent training that prepares competent and responsible professionals, capable of facing the challenges of the labor market, but above all of contributing to the development of the region and from the country. Therefore, as part of its culture of quality, the UABC has systematically undergone external evaluations by national and international accrediting bodies for more than 30 years. The current Institutional Development Plan highlights the importance of continuous improvement processes to identify strengths and areas of opportunity, thus guaranteeing the quality of educational programs.
This process of continuous improvement allows the necessary adaptations to be made to social, scientific and technological changes that generate a positive impact on society. Furthermore, it opens an opportunity to strengthen the prestige and recognition that our institution has at a national and international level, in addition to being a commitment to accountability to society, by ensuring the effective use of the resources invested in each one. of elements that give life to an educational program for the benefit of students.
In this context, the quality assurance process of undergraduate educational programs includes three stages (see Annex 1). The first stage it begins with the self-assessment exercise, in accordance with the reference frameworks of national or international accrediting organizations, which continues with an evaluation, from which the identification of strengths and areas of opportunity for the educational program is derived. This stage is accompanied by the staff of the Educational Quality Assurance Department of the General Coordination of Vocational Training. From this exercise and with the input of information from the opinion, observations and recommendations issued by the accrediting body, the second stage, which includes the formulation of the Improvement Plan (PM), which is a strategic document that identifies and organizes the specific actions to be implemented to correct and strengthen the areas of opportunity detected during the evaluation process, with the objective of raising the quality and effectiveness of the educational program. This plan details the actions, responsibilities, resources, success indicators, and schedule necessary to ensure that the proposed improvements are executed efficiently and achieve the desired results, thus promoting a continuous cycle of optimization and excellence. In the formulation of the plan, the staff of the Department of Teaching and Research Support (DADI) of each campus is supported.
Once the PM is integrated, it starts with the third stage, which involves the implementation and monitoring of the actions declared in the plan that are reported annually to the DADI, which require being resolved one year before starting the reaccreditation stage.
Based on the above, the procedure to follow in each of the stages that include the cycle of continuous improvement in the operation of undergraduate educational programs is presented.
Procedure for quality assurance of undergraduate educational programs through the evaluation of accrediting bodies
- The academic unit (UA) requests the OA to start the process (methodology, reference framework, costs, contract, among others) and notifies the agreements to the General Coordination of Vocational Training (CGFP).
- The UA begins the preparation of the self-assessment, with the advice and guidance of the CGFP.
- The AU concludes the self-assessment and sends it to the CGFP for review.
- The CGFP reviews the self-assessment and issues observations for improvement and strengthening, or approves submission to the OA.
- The UA sends the self-assessment to the OA and requests a visit date, notifying the CGFP of the progress.
- The OA carries out the evaluation visit and issues an opinion, certificate and recommendations.
- The OA evaluates the EP and issues an opinion.
- The UA or the CGFP receives the opinion with the recommendations derived from the evaluation process for accreditation.
- •If the opinion and recommendations reach the academic unit, a digital copy must be sent to the CGFP and the DADI.
- •If the opinion and recommendations reach the CGFP, they must be delivered to the AU in the format received and a digital copy sent to the DADI.
- The cycle of continuous improvement restarts with the formulation of the Improvement Plan
corresponding format (the format will be provided by the DADI).
Some OAs request the improvement plan as a condition for issuing the final opinion, so it will be necessary to comply with the OA guidelines for its preparation and delivery. - The UA begins the preparation of the PM, with the advice and guidance of the DADI.
The PM must be completed a no later than 3 months after the date of receipt of the opinion, whether or not expressly requested by the OA. - The UA sends the PM to the OA and begins permanent monitoring. In cases where the OA requests a PM, the DADI must issue the Vo.Bo. before sending it to the OA, always prioritizing the times established by it.
-
The UA monitors the PM and delivers a progress report to the DADI annually.
This monitoring is carried out independently and in parallel to the monitoring evaluations established in the corresponding OA procedures. - The DADI and the AU attend to follow-up evaluations in accordance with the OA procedure.
-
The OA responds to the evaluation.
An opinion is issued with persistent or new recommendations, which must be addressed within the established period. -
If recommendations persist, the AU and DADI work to address them.
Follow-up work is resumed to resolve all observations. -
The UA monitors the PM and delivers a progress report to the DADI annually (step 4 is repeated).
In monitoring the PMs, the DADI informs the DACE of any situation that could be delaying attention to the actions proposed in the PM and that, if not addressed, could put the quality of the educational program at risk. - The AU submits the updated PM to the DADI and the DACE for approval to request follow-up evaluation or reaccreditation.
Approval of the DADI and DACE is an essential requirement to request the OA evaluation, and must be completed 1 year before the accreditation expiration date. - The cycle restarts with the activities of stage 1.
