MOOC Development of Socio-emotional Skills
Presentation
In response to the need to form a proposal for the socio-emotional development of the higher and upper secondary education student population, the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) presents the MOOC:
Development of Social-Emotional Skills
The MOOC is designed so that you know the importance of emotions in different aspects, such as: decision making, learning processes and the formation of satisfactory interpersonal relationships.
Purpose
That participants apply socio-emotional competencies in their learning processes and school performance, as well as in their life and career planning, in such a way that they strengthen their ability to make reasoned decisions about their vocational choice, enrich their subsequent professional training and build the foundations for future employability.
Aim
Promote the socio-emotional development of students to improve learning processes, decision making and the definition of personal, academic and professional objectives.

The MOOC Development of Socio-emotional Skills it constitutes a tool so that Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Higher Secondary Education Institutions (IEMS) can incorporate, as a transversal strategy, attention to the socio-emotional education of the student population, with the aim of enriching their training processes.
The reason for this training scheme aimed at improving socio-emotional skills is because they have a favorable impact on the academic performance and academic career of students, since, as various studies have shown, this type of content serves as basis for young people to develop emotional self-regulatory capacities in such a way that they find meaning and enjoyment in the activities they undertake, including educational ones.
In another sense, this MOOC will also allow:
- Contribute to compliance with the policy of obligation and right to Higher Secondary Education and Higher Education, established in the Political Constitution and the General Law of Higher Education of Mexico.
- Contribute to social justice and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), allowing not only the access of more students, but also contributing to their transition and graduation.
- Address the principle of social responsibility, materializing the possibility for young people to develop life and career plans based on in-depth knowledge of their socio-emotional skills under conditions of equity, equal opportunities and contribution to social justice.
- Contribute to the achievement of the recommendations that the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development established for Higher Education in Mexico in 2019: to serve graduates of Higher Secondary Education in an inclusive manner, both in the general, combined and vocational branches, emphatically recognizing the previous learning acquired, thus facilitating the adequate and satisfactory transition between educational levels.
Commitment of the UABC
The UABC seeks to make a contribution to society by offering opportunities for the training of young people in Mexico and other parts of the world in terms of the development of socio-emotional skills.
In this way, this course is the product of the quality work of our institution and represents a proactive strategy, since it anticipates the scenarios of massification of higher education and complements the policy of access to this educational level from the principles of equity, justice and social responsibility.
For the UABC, students are the center of efforts. For this reason, we will continue designing strategies to strengthen your training path, such as the one we present to you today.
